Its been a long week and there's lots to discuss, so I suggest we skip the pleasantries and get right to it. First off, we had Internationals this week. England won against Denmark with goals for Bent and Young. Germany drew 1-1 with Italy, Klose (who I just realized looks like the lead singer for Muse) continues to score for Germany despite his dismal club showing. To be honest though he is one of my favorite international players on my favorite international team. (Not including USA of course) France against Brasil ended 1-0, France being the victors. A good game to watch especially for Chelsea fans. Our new signing Luiz played well with some impressive balls forward. The round of matches brought up the question: what is the role of Internationals anyway. Should they have them during the clubs' season, or should they be played after the season in one go? Hmmm...a question for another post I think.
Alright so on to the EPL. The weekend produced one of the most amazing goals of the season and possibly beyond, (in a big game too) possibly taking the race for the title down to just two. It all happened during a Manchester derby; Manchester United at home against Manchester City. This one ended with an incredible winning goal by Rooney, a bicycle kick that saw Rooney back in the spotlight after a quiet season from the United striker.
Arsenal matched United's pace with a win of their own against Wolves, and Liverpool drew with Wigan. Tottenham won 2-1 over Sunderland moving three points clear of Chelsea and taking fourth place at the same time. Chelsea themselves could have retained their place with a win Monday against Fulham. They ended with a 0-0 draw, Cech saving a very late penalty to secure at least one point for the Blues. New defender Luiz had his first start, and played excellent throughout. He was one of the best on the pitch for Chelsea, and despite giving away the late penalty, which by the way was a little soft. I've seen them not given for sure. He did awesome sending plenty of great balls forward, one of them for Torres who had a bad touch and sent the best chance of the game to naught.
Champions League!
So as you should know, Champions League resumes this week with a number of great matches. First we'll start with AC Milan at home with Tottenham coming in. Tottneham did come, dominating the first half and though Milan started pressing in the second half, great defense and good officiating kept them at bay. Tottenham was able to hang on due to some excellent saves from Gomez and grab the winning goal on the counter attack. (Crouch getting that one.) The second leg will be played at White Hart Lane, Tottenham going home with the advantage. I predict Tottenham will go through.
The even bigger match though, was Arsenal against Barcelona at the Emirates. The Gunners started out well, but eventually Barca took control and eventually got the goal with Villa putting it into the back of the net. The Gunners were then able to hold off the formidable attack of Messi and Co. and go on to get the equalizer late in the second half. Van Persie sent home a magnificent goal from an impossible angle. I don't care what position the keeper was in, it was a finish rarely seen. The Gunners weren't done though. Not much later, a break by Nasri from a sweet pass sent by Fabregas, lead him into the box to find an approaching Arshavin who sent the ball with a nice touch into the net giving Arsenal their first victory against Barcelona. It was an exciting game, and we'll see the climax in Barcelona in a few weeks. I think I'm going to take a gamble on this one and say the Gunners hold on and knock Barca out, and they themselves go on.

United Lose, the Chelsea Blues, and Arsenal give three away.
Well I'm back after a couple of days, and apologize for the late nature of this post. I've been sitting in my bed saying "Fernando, Fernandoo,Fernandooo!" (Add a shaky voice to the "o's") Brooding on the chance he shanked, but will get to that in a bit. For now lets talk about United shall we? Well they finally lost, and the "Crap Invincibles" are no longer invincible. They lost 2-1 at Wolves. Though the scoring opened for United in the 3', with a great goal by Nani. Yet Wolves scored sooner rather than later, getting the equalizer in the 11'. Elokobi with the header. (He also destroyed the corner flag in celebration) Doyle finished the scoring with a header in the 40'. I think its been a long time in the making for United, as they have gone down early in a couple of the their past games. Great defense by Wolves, leading to United's Scholes resorting his hands in front of goal. He was spotted and given a yellow card.
Another game that raised eyebrows was Newcastle vs. Arsenal. Has to be one of the best games ever, and must be a fond memory for Newcastle fans. Arsenal scored in the first minute, and went into halftime 4-0.
All three points looked secure for the Gunners, but Newcastle had other ideas. Arsenal player Diaby was sent off with a red, and Newcastle took control of their advantage. After two penalties were given,(one of them being rather weak) and two goals, Newcastle came back to tie it, winning an inspiring point.
In the 32' Torres again had a shot on goal when Drogba sent a super pass for Torres to chase. Torres had Reina coming out, but he didn't make full contact with the ball and sent it into a sliding Carragher. Liverpool had their own missed chance ten minutes from halftime when Rodriguez had a wide open goal in front of him, but side-footed the ball up into the cross bar being only two yards out. He's got to be in the running for worst miss of the season. Liverpool though would forget it, when Meireles smashed home a ball that Cech and Ivanovic left for each other to deal with. Chelsea felt that they should have had a penalty when Lucas, in the box, had a hand ball. The ref decided it wasn't worth the penalty, letting it go.
Torres who was substituted in the second half, had his chances. Still it was his first game, and Chelsea need to settle into their diamond formation. (I hope they do for my, and other Chelsea fans, sakes)
The rest of the weekend was fabulous for a neutral. Plenty of goals, and some great games.

Chelsea must feel demoralized with United dropping points and failing to close the gap. The key for Chelsea is to move on, and focus. This leads to another question. What formation will Chelsea play? The most common idea floating around is the Diamond with both Drogba, and Torres upfront working together. Anelka could be the playmaker behind them, among any number of options. If its a 4-3-3 then again Torres needs to be in the center upfront. Drogba hasn't been the same lately, and could do well in more of a wing type position. Although expect Drogba, and Torres up front together. As Ancelotti has said he "I've never had a problem to put together players with quality."

Managers to the rescue!
Managers around the EPL have, in the last couple of days, been sending a message to the media, other managers, and agents. It all centers around something like "get off my player's back, and bug off!" No that is not a direct quote, but it gets the idea across nicely. First off Kenny Dalglish, manager of Liverpool, defended one of his new signings. It happened in a press conference when Carroll was taking questions from reporters, and when something came up about his former club Newcastle and the bit about Carroll being forced out, Carroll slightly hesitated then said how much he respected Newcastle and its fans and decisively said he would not be taking questions that dealt with his departure from Newcastle. Later on in the conference Dalglish told reporters. "I'd just like to reassure Andy. We're (meaning Liverpool staff and so on) more upbeat about Andy comin' than I think you (meaning reporters) are. Every question you ask has got negativity in it. We don't see any reason to be negative in any way shape or form about Andy Carroll signing for Liverpool football club. It's a great signing for us." Dalglish then continued by saying Liverpool had a positive attitude towards Carroll, and are looking forward to getting him fit. I'm liking Dalglish more every day, seems like a great manager/man. Suarez was also present, and in my opinion will also be an excellent signing for the Reds.
Wenger (Arsenal Manager) also made some comments defending Arsenal Captain Fabregas. Fabregas was the culprit for a number of people. Among such was Everton Manager Moyes, calling out Fabregas for things he said in the tunnel. Wenger came back with this: "For me, this is over and I believe that it is wrong for Moyes to come out and say what he claims to have heard in the tunnel. If I come out with what I have heard in the tunnel over the last ten years you would be amazed." To be honest I have to agree with Wenger here. Any number of things can be said in the tunnel that really have no basis or relevance. On the flip side, Fabregas (apparently) accusing the refs of being "paid off" is something that's too serious of an accusation for a professional to make.
The last is from Holloway, manager of Blackpool, who warned Charlie Adam's agent, and basically said that Adam is great player who he has a lot of respect for, and he will eventually end up at one of the big clubs, but that it will be when Charlie (and possibly himself) wanted, and was ready to. Once again Holloway pointed out the evils of modern football in the top flights, and though he has his critics for it I'm glad someone does.
Things worth noting:
Newcastle striker Ameobi has broken his cheekbone, taking yet another one of the clubs strikers out of the squad.
Andy Carroll has promised to respect his position as a player at his top club Liverpool, and also to live up to his £35m. by scoring goals for his new side.

Two Day Report.
Its been a busy two days in the EPl, and we've seen everything from the bad, to the good, ugly, and terrifying. So with out further delay lets go over our list of matches.
Tuesday
Arsenal vs. Everton
This one started with a nice little heel flick from Van Persie to set up a great chance for Fabregas, but the Gunners captain missed sending the ball wide of the target. Later into the half Everton scored with one of the most questionable calls of the week. Louis Saha with a brilliant strike past the keeper, but from (in my opinion) an offsides position. Everton was moving the ball into Arsenals half when Coleman passed to Saha who was clearly in an offsides position. The flag stayed down due to the fact that Koscielny had a touch on the ball from what looked like a last ditch attempt at a clearance. The Gunners though came back in the 70' when Fabregas sent a lovely ball over the top. The ball bounced of an Everton defender and Arshavin (Off the bench mind you) finished it by sending it sweetly into the back of the net bringing Arsenal level. The Gunners then pressed forward keeping the ball in the attacking half leading to a excellent free kick by Van Persie witch was only saved by some super keeping from (U.S. International) Tim Howard. Though it was all for not when less than a minute afterwards Arsenal got the winner off a Koscielny header. The game finished 2-1 in favor of the Gunners.
Sunderland vs. Chelsea
This one started quickly with Sunderland going up in the 4'. A nice strike by Bardsley, and Ivanovic deciding to duck instead of blocking the shot lead to the goal, though the shot was indeed a good one. Ten minutes later in the 14' Chelsea received a penalty when Mohummudi went over Ashley Cole in the area. Frank Lampard promptly finished the penalty bring Chelsea on terms. In the 23' minute Kalou got on the score sheet when, during a counter attack, pushed the ball past the keeper into the net from the edge of the box. Chelsea now leading 2-1 tried to hold and extend their lead, but was disappointed when three minutes later Richardson scored for Sunderland off a free kick. The score would remain the same into half time. The second half was dominated by Chelsea. Sunderland only getting two shots, while the Blues scored as many goals. The first came off a corner when it was deflected out of the box to a waiting Lampard who chested it down and sent a hard strike towards goal. Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon stopped the shot only to have John Terry send what was a nice ball behind him into the goal. The second of the half, fourth of the game, came in stoppage time when Anelka sent the ball into the bottom corner with a heel flick shot, Malouda getting the assist. Chelsea won 4-2, and Impressive performance, with players trying to secure their spots in the squad.
Manchester United vs. Aston Villa
If the previous game started quick, its nothing compared to this one. Just forty nine seconds into the game Man-U keeper van der Sar sent a brilliant ball forward for Rooney to chase. Chase he did, and helping the ball down with a touch form Mt. Olympus, the Red Devils number 10 sent the ball flying over Villa's keeper to give United an early 1-0 lead. Later in the first half United doubled their lead when Nani sent an incredible cross into the box that Rooney sent blasting into the net. Rooney hasn't scored a brace since March 2010. Villa got their goal in the second half, 58'. Darren Bent continued his goal scoring by punching in a cross, cutting United's lead to one. United though finished the game off with Rooney laying the ball off for Vidic who blasted into the goal scoring a magnificent goal. United showed their quality all around the pitch, and continued their EPL unbeaten run. United win 3-1
West Bromwich Albion vs. Wigan Athletic
To save time this one finished 2-2 with Peter, and Fortune on the sheet for West Brom. N'Zogbia, and Watson on the sheet for Wigan.
Wednesday
Birmingham vs. Manchester City
This one started with Manchester City's Teves showing his muscle and sending the ball through the defenders legs and into the goal. Birmingham leveled with a free kick from Bently that Zidic flicked on claiming it though I thought he missed it. Terrible defending from M.City leading to the goal. M.City defender was taken off the field, and to the Hospital after a horrible looking head injury. It was truly terrifying. Manchester Cit though reclaimed the lead in the 41' with a powerful free kick for Kolarov catching the keeper out of place. Birmingham with its fighting spirit wasn't finished tying the game up with a questionable penalty in the 76', Gardner putting that one away. This one finished with nothing between the two 2-2
Blackburn Rovers vs. Tottenham Hotspur
This one finished 1-0 with Tottenham getting some much needed points for their Champions League ambitions. Peter Crouch getting the goal at 3'. A header (of course what else would it be with a guy that tall) towards far post.
Blackpool vs. West Ham United
West Ham secured a crucial three points with a 3-1 win over Blackpool. All the goals in the first half. Obinna scored a brace, with Robbie Keane getting a debut goal for the Hammers. Charlie Adam who was a talking point during the last day of the transfer window scored for Blackpool.
Bolton Wanderers vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
This one finished 1-0 in favor of Bolton with Sturridge getting his debut goal being on loan from Chelsea.
Fulham vs. Newcastle United
Duff got the only goal of the game giving Fulham all three points. 1-0
Liverpool vs. Stoke City
Liverpool seemed to be inspired with Dalglish at the helm. They won 2-0 with Meirelis getting his goal in the 46' and Torres replacement Suarez getting his debut goal, though it should have been cleared by stoke defender Wilkinson. A number of yellow cards in this one, but the reds move within seven points of Tottenham, eleven of Chelsea.

Carroll? (Enough said....well sort of)

Carroll is no stranger to controversy, so it seems fitting that soon after the deal was done reports came out about a text message conversation he had with Steve Wraith, who then had it published. Carroll was quoted as saying things like "I'm gutted to be leaving my home town club, I was told to go. I didn't want to leave that's why I signed a 5 year deal. I was pushed out of the door."
"(Managing Director) Derek asked me to hand in a transfer request, so I was pushed into a corner and had no choice. I wasn't wanted by them and they made it clear they wanted the money. Then I flew down in helicopter. I didn't want to leave. I'm gutted that I wasn't wanted at my home team after everything I have done and the progress I have made. I didn't want to leave at all. Make sure they know I didn't want to leave. The players, staff and fans were fantastic.''

These comments can only make what have been an already bad week for Liverpool fans much worse. One of your new strikers, instead of saying comments about the hard work he intends to do at his new club, is saying he would rather be where he came from. Newcastle have denied Carrolls claims saying he handed in his transfer request, after he had threatened to leave the club over a new contract. Both stories seem weird, and its a mystery that may never be uncovered. The best thing for Carroll to do is get to work. He could have a fabulous career an Liverpool. He and Suarez could be a perfect fit, with Carroll being powerful in the air and Suarez making decisive runs into the box and cutting up the defense. To be honest I think Liverpool might just be better off, but that all depends on Carroll and his attitude. The potential is there. Can Dalglish shape it into something great?
The only thing left for Liverpool to do is control their two new signings who have histories with off the pitch problems.
Fernando Transfer, January Torres! (Wait no somthings wrong?)
Well yesterday was the last day of the January Transfer window, and England went a little crazy, not that its a bad thing. Makes for an exciting transfer, unlike last summer. The last day being the big one (Reaching totals of almost £200m for the entire EPL), for the amounts and the names. Obviously the first two that come to mind are Torres, and Carroll. Both bought for more than they were worth, and both coming with plenty of controversy. Alright so for the sake of my sanity (and maybe yours) I will split each player into his own special paragraph. We will start with the most expensive. Fernando Torres.
Fernando Torres went to Chelsea for (what is speculated) a record signing of £50m. ($80.6150m) The amount said to be stated in his contracts buy-out clause. The question is why would Torres want to leave Anfield? And why did Chelsea want him at the Bridge? And for so much? Well the fallowing are my opinions of other opinions I've heard and what Torres himself has said. First, why would he want to leave Liverpool? Well it is said that Torres had in his contract a promise that Liverpool would make the buys to reach the Champions League, something that's obviously in the Spanish strikers ambitions. Apparently he decided that Liverpool were not making the necessary adjustments to the club, and the purchase of Ajax striker Luis Suarez (£22.7m) wasn't enough to convince the former Liverpool beloved to stay. He then handed in his transfer request, and Chelsea started to make bids, such as £35m, £40m plus Daniel Sturridge. Liverpool rejected both, but the clubs eventually came to an agreement, and Torres was on his way to the Chelsea training ground via copter. So Then why did Chelsea splash the cash for an injury prone player? Well the Idea is floating around that Chelsea's billionaire has had an obsession with Torres for over a year now and was dead set on having him. Anyways he is still only 26 (27 in the next couple of months) and has experience and when he's on its unbelievable. Someone to replace Drogba, and help upcoming Kalou and such.
The Liverpool fans obviously felt betrayed, and
vented their anger by the traditional way of fire. Angry? Yep I would say so. For Americans who don't fallow the EPL to closely it would be like college basketball star Jimmer Ferdette leaving BYU, and transferring to league rivals San Diego State.........OK so not exactly, but hey it gets the point across.
Fernando arrived at Chelsea F.C. and started talks, that eventually come to Fernando smiling on the Chelsea home page(http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2281499,00.html)
and Torres saying the fallowing.
Torres: "I am very happy with my transfer to Chelsea and I am looking forward very much to helping my new team-mates this season and for many years to come. Having played against Chelsea many times since coming to England, and in some very big games I will never forget, I know there are many great players here and I will work hard to win a place in the team. I hope I can score some important goals for the supporters to enjoy this season."
Others also added their comments such as Chairman Bruce Buck "This is a very significant day for Chelsea, capturing one of the best players in the world with his peak years ahead of him. We have long admired the talents of a player who is a proven goalscorer in English football and Fernando's arrival is a sign of our continuing high ambitious. I hope every Chelsea fan is as excited as I am with this news."
And Chief executive Ron Gourlay "Signing a player of the stature of Fernando Torres benefits the club on many levels. Carlo Ancelotti was keen to add his talents to the squad as we continue our quest for three trophies this season, we are delighted we have succeed with that wish, and this signing will undoubtedly aid the club in realising our worldwide potential."

Well he won't be playing against Sunderland today, but will train (http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2282230,00.html while his new team tries to beat the team that did exactly that at Stamford Bridge. So when will Torres play? It will be this Sunday. And who will he be playing against in his debut? Well none other than his previous club Liverpool, though at the Bridge. Still there will be plenty of anti-Torres singing from the visitor's section. Hopefully it doesn't go beyond that, we don't want anything that affects player's, or fan's health. Maybe there should be a sign posted out side the gate reminding people that their right stops where someone's face starts.
Another thing to consider is where will Torres be placed in the Chelsea squad? Drogba currently occupies the upfront striker, and when Drogba plays equal with Anelka it doesn't seem to work. I would guess from a neutral point of view that Drogba in the center with Torres, and Anelka on the wings. Torres speed could be useful there, though he does prefer to be a lone striker upfront, so will see what happens. This game is going to be more super than the other Football game later that day in the states.
Alright so this is going to be the segment on Torres through my "Blue" glasses, as I am indeed a Chelsea fan. (And a pure one at that, none of this bandwagon stuff) First off I for some reason wanted to Torres Deal to go through. I think he will work hard and try. Playing a game that he hasn't (maybe willingly) shown at Liverpool. I also think he should (as soon as possible) replace Drogba as our main upfront striker. Drogba and Anelka have seemed disinterested for some time now, walking around the pitch picking daisies. Place Drogba behind to support Torres, or off in the wing. Anyways Drogba has been playing (when he decides he wants to) more towards the midfield lately. Lets face it the Drogba, Anelka, even Lampard and Terry golden times are over.
